SPICY MEXICAN SAUCE WITH CHIPOTLE CHILIES, TOMATOES, AND PEANUTS
Chipotle chilies, tomato, natural cane vinegar, peanuts, and Laterra Mexican spice blend.
Peanuts originated in South America as early as 1,500 B.C, where the Inca of Peru used them as sacrificial offerings. This member of the Legume Family reached the Aztecs [as cacahuatl] in Mexico during the Spanish exploration. Peanuts are naturally cholesterol-free; contribute more than 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients; and have no trans-fats. The dried Chipotle [chee-POHT-lay] Chili Pepper, when fresh, is the Jalapeño Chili. The term “Chipotle”, of Aztec descent (Chili Poctli), means Smoked Chili and was the pre-Hispanic process of drying this pepper. The Chipotle Chili is usually identified by a smoky, light-brown sugar aftertaste.
